The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRDGC) entered into an intergovernmental agreement with the Wheeling Park District and the Village of Wheeling to allow for the construction of the Heritage Park Flood Control Facility, which will provide the necessary compensatory storage for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ (USACE) Levee 37 project located on the Des Plaines River. The project includes an expansion to the existing stormwater detention reservoir known as Heritage Lake, excavation of new floodwater storage areas east and west of Buffalo Creek, and passive and active recreation components. Interra’s services on the project involve installation and monitoring of geotechnical instrumentation consisting of inclinometers, observation wells and deformation monitoring points; wave-equation analyses for pile driving operations; construction monitoring and laboratory testing for earthwork, cast-in-place concrete, cement-bentonite slurry wall and asphalt paving operations.
