The Central Street Bridge over the north shore channel is three-span structure that measures 185-feet long. The bridge was constructed in 1908 and the current geotechnical investigation was performed to aid in the design of a replacement bridge, including foundations. Scope of work included soil borings extending over 100 feet, up to bedrock. Laboratory testing included moisture content tests, grainsize analysis, Atterberg limits, and Unconfined Compressive Strength tests. Computerized slope stability analyses was performed to investigate settlement issues noted near the adjacent structures. The Structure Geotechnical Report (SGR) was prepared in accordance with IDOT guidelines.
