This IDOT project included the reconstruction and widening of US 45 (LaGrange Road) from 131st Street to 179th Street through the Villages of Orland Hills, Orland Park, Palos Park, and Tinley Park. Work involved Quality Assurance testing and construction inspection of soils, aggregates, concrete, and asphalt. Construction inspection duties included traffic control, earth excavation, caisson inspection for retaining walls and pavement. For soils and aggregates, compaction testing was performed on backfill, embankments, and the subgrade. Both moisture and density tests were conducted and ensured to meet project requirements. Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP) testing was performed on subgrade to check for the stability of the soil. Daily field inspections of concrete and asphalt were completed. For concrete, cylinder specimens were made and air content, temperature, slump, and strength were tested. The cylinder samples were stored and transported to the INTERRA laboratory. Testing was completed on retaining wall panels, curbs, gutters, driveways, and retaining wall caps. Yield checks were also performed on concrete and asphalt pavement and Inspector Daily Reports (IDRs) were completed.
